The Korean pianist included Òscar’s piano cycle in her programme for one of Europe’s leading competitions for 20th- and 21st-century piano repertoire
Pianist Dasom Woo performed music from Òscar’s Imatges during the Frankfurt first round of the 17th International Piano Competition of Orléans, held at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Frankfurt.
Founded in 1994, the Orléans International Piano Competition is devoted to piano repertoire from 1900 to the present day, offering a major international platform for pianists with a special commitment to modern and contemporary music.
Dasom Woo’s programme explored different European musical traditions and their relationship with folk heritage and contemporary expression. Within this context, Imatges appeared alongside works by Bartók, Ligeti and Albéniz.
Written for solo piano, Imatges is a luminous triptych inspired by emblematic landmarks of Valencia and connected to the evocative imagery of the poetry of Vicent Andrés Estellés. Through resonance, gesture and Mediterranean lyricism, the cycle transforms memory, landscape and poetic image into a deeply personal pianistic language.
The performance marks another international appearance for Imatges, following recent presentations in Portugal, Austria, Spain and other European contexts, and underlines the growing presence of the work within the contemporary piano repertoire.
