Òscar returns for his awaited annual conference and solo & chamber performance teaching

Dr. Òscar Colomina i Bosch—composer, conductor, and Dean of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid— returns to Porto Pianofest for its landmark 10th edition, running from August 1 to 12, 2025.

A beloved member of the festival faculty for the last 9 years, Òscar will once again lead interpretation lessons, pre-concert events, and his much-anticipated Lecture-Conference, part of the festival’s annual From Analysis to Interpretation series.

This year’s focus shifts to the emotional and structural depths of W. A. Mozart’s Piano Sonata in A minor, K. 310—a powerful and intimate work composed during one of the most turbulent periods of Mozart’s life.

Inside the Lecture: From Analysis to Interpretation

Join Dr. Colomina i Bosch for a deep dive into Mozart’s A minor Sonata—a rare minor-key piano work in Mozart’s catalogue and one of profound expressive force. Through meticulous analysis and interpretative exploration, the session will uncover the structural clarity, harmonic tension, and will bring back to life the emotional landscape of this extraordinary piece.

This year’s lecture will also pay tribute to the influential Austrian-born British musicologist and theorist Hans Keller (1919–1985), marking the 40th anniversary of his passing. A towering figure in 20th-century musical thought, Keller was known for his pioneering work in musical analysis, especially his concept of “functional analysis,” which sought to uncover the structural unity of musical works without relying solely on traditional verbal explanation. A passionate advocate for contemporary music and a longtime contributor to the BBC, he was also a tireless educator whose ideas continue to shape how we think about music. Dr. Colomina will weave several of Keller’s analytical principles into this year’s exploration of Mozart’s A minor Sonata, offering both a heartfelt homage and a renewed lens through which to understand one of Mozart’s most profound piano works.

Whether you’re a performer, teacher, student, or simply a curious listener, this session will open new perspectives on how thoughtful musical analysis can fuel richer, more intentional performances.

Òscar’s teaching blends scholarship with artistry, making this a cornerstone event of the educational program.
